Killarney

More beautiful cruising through the narrow channel of Collins Inlet and a short jump in open water. Another beautiful cruising day.  Entering the channel in Killarney.  Brenda and Peter came to visit and kindly brought provisions for this coming week.  It happened to be their 26th anniversary so they treated us to dinner at one of the fine dining restaurants here.  Yup! they shopped, carted and brought us one week of boat provisions then bought us dinner…..lucky us.

Mill Lake

Day 2 in Collins Inlet….we decided to cruise further in and anchor in Mill Lake. The channel is so narrow in some spots I felt I could reach out and touch the cliffs Ran into one boat and a few canoes along the way Alone again, beautiful day and night. Don’t think the boat moved more than a few feet one way or another.

Collins Inlet

Leaving the islands there was an open crossing for a few hours but the weather was perfect. You will notice a portion of our track is off  to the West.  We responded to a Coat Guard Assistance request by a fellow Looper. Alvin James was experiencing engine issues but were still moving at 6 knots and with only  9 miles to go heading to Killarney they decided they were good to carry on without us. Still feel we should have followed……. Lovely cruising. Our first night anchorage, a larger bay with very few boats around. Nestled up against a granite cliff for shelter from north winds left us with poor cell service…..hence multiple posts today to catch up.  Oh look! There are fish in this lake. Released this little one….

Dinghy exploring

Image
Lot’s of ins and outs to explore.  The call of Loons is all day long here, never gets old. Try to take their picture however….they pop up close to the boat when my phone is out of reach or dive before I can capture them…..best I could do of this family. Back to the Mother Ship. This photo taken by a fellow Looper.

The Bustards

This was our longest travel day yet. It was a perfect day to be on the water with little wind and ๐ŸŒž.  Islands and more islands…..30 thousand actually. The narrow passages are intimidating but well marked. Beautiful cruising!!! Pulled into our bay before lunch just as the only boat here was leaving. We took up the choicest spot, by our unseasoned standards, in a well sheltered area with lots of room for many more boats.  A few more did come…. We went for a dinghy ride, Richard did some fishing…”no fish in this lake”☹️ Another moon on the water picture. This is the night after the super moon and she rose like a ball of fire out of the water. Prettiest one yet.  Dawn….pretty as a picture. Touch up paint on my dryer vent.  We will stay here until Monday morning. If weather permits we will cross over to Collins Inlet to the north west of here.  Terrible cell service here so tata for now.  ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Our first lighthouse

Image
The Pointe au Baril lighthouse. And of course the barrel marking the point.  Not the original of course but at the original location.  I had no idea…. I took so many pictures of the rocks on each side of the narrow channels but it really doesn’t do it justice.  Our plan was to go to the Bustard Islands but the winds were rocking us too hard so we tucked into Bayfield Inlet to anchor for the night.  The winds blew most of the day until around night fall, now it is like glass…. Super Moon….Goodnight Moon

Goodbye Jo and O

Image
Jo and O were the first boater friends we made on this journey. They were our neighbors in Penetanguishene. They just happen to be on holidays spending time on their boat in Killbear at the same time we were. We arrived a little later in the day to find our chosen anchorage already taken so we backtracked to a larger bay and managed to squeeze into a spot among other boats for the night.  Dinner and relaxing, beautiful evening….the wind died down.  Sweet dreams ๐Ÿ˜ด
