What’s next for the Butlers

Retirement is next…..Let’s Go,

Where to?  Well….….a few years ago, Richard came across an article about the Great Loop.  He started reading Looper blogs, watching YouTubes and reading articles.  Since we sold our family home in Newmarket and moved to St Andrew’s East golf course’s Superintendent house a few years ago, our options for retirement would be wide open without the burden of a dirt home.  Now living on a boat took some convincing 🤯 but once educated on the pros and cons, I was on aboard.

The Great Loop is the circumnavigation of eastern United States and parts of Canada.  It’s a 6,000 mile journey that should take us one year.  You cruise following the seasons spending the summer in Canada and the Great Lakes, down the river systems from Chicago to Mobile in the fall, spend the winter in Florida and the Bahamas and up the east coast north to NewYork and back to Canada in the spring. Some refer to it as chasing 80 degrees or cruise until the butter melts…..being Canadian, that sounds lovely.

We joined American Great Loop Cruisers Association or AGLCA a few years ago, attending webinars, boat shows and through Covid a virtual rendezvous. We have no boating experience, owning or otherwise.  We are sponges……..at least Richard is, I tend to glaze over after a while😏.
