Special guests

All the way from Halifax, our eldest son Chris and his shadow Murphy came for the reunion and stayed onboard with us for an extra day….it was a shame we were not able to go cruising due to high winds. Took a hike up to Bridal Veil Falls.  We loved having them both.  Sue and Rick came to spend the day….drinks, food and games….so competitive.  We will be here until Thursday, September 1st…….looks like a good travel day.

Challenging departure from Little Current with current and wind …... We are off. Some chop crossing West Bay as we are exposed to winds from the north on our beam.  Tucked into this town dock between that pile of rocks and the end of the dock.  Three other Loop boats followed us in to port to wait out incoming rain.  Family reunion on the island. We will be here for a week and maybe more looking at strong winds coming in this week.  Very special time for all of us. Thanks to our hosts.

Little Current

Little Current lighthouse and very calm seas coming in from Killarney. Swing bridge opens on the hour for 15 minutes. We were a little early and adjusted our speed to enter the harbour. The current and wind were almost nonexistent. Luckily…. Some open water but the perfect day for it.  Bridge opening  Heading to the town dock for one night. Out for lunch and restocking our supplies.  😴

When I woke up this morning, this beautiful ship was docked one over from our port side.  Sleepy looking teens started to emerge from below. It wasn’t long until they were working on the sails, climbing the rigging and getting ready for their day on the water.  This is a youth training ship. Google her, she has a very interesting history.  We did not see her under sail….this a google pic

Welcome aboard

Back to Killarney to spend 2 days with friends driving in from Sudbury to see us off and wish us Bon Voyage. Sunday Arriving by water taxi are Colette, Ivan and Joanne.  Catching up with drinks on the back deck.  Rain held out and we had a beautiful afternoon watching the boats come in and out of the harbour. Treated ourselves to fish and chips for lunch.  Always so great to see these ladies.  Sunday Time for a hike on George Island  Beautiful pink granite rocks.  Buggy and muggy but well worth it.  Sue and Daniel arrived in the afternoon for cocktails on the back deck. Nice visit with them before going to the Inn for dinner. Friendship…..priceless!

Covered Portage

After dropping off our guests we went to anchor at Covered Portage. A very nice anchorage but very crowded spot as it is so close to Killarney, but we managed to set our anchor and spend a quiet night on the hook. Expecting rain on and off for the next few days.

Baie Fine

Image
Left Killarney with our very first passengers heading to  Baie Fine.  Richard’s sister Brenda and her husband Peter enjoying the view from the Pilothouse. Peter wearing my headset hamming it up for the camera.  Captain and his best mate.  Baie Fine is a Fjord…3 hour trip from Killarney.  Beautiful day….beautiful cruising.  Took us a few tries to get the anchor to hold, just around the corner from The Pool.  Peter brought cigars….he’s a bad influence.  Day 2 we all board Alikat for a trip up to The Pool.  Hike up to Topaz Lake…..we took a wrong turn and missed the turn off so got a few more steps in.  Beautiful crystalline lake with white and pink quartzite mountains surrounded with lush forest.  Water was, as we say in Canada, refreshing.  After cooling off we hiked a little higher for this view of The Pool and the boats anchored below.  Back to Red Rover Relaxing, swimming, dinner and card game which I won 😎 Back to Killarney early Saturday morning to drop of these  two characters…
