Anchored on the Cumberland

Early departure from Green Turtle Bay, for a 3 day trip on the Cumberland River to Nashville.

We left with our friends on Liming but they had to turn back do to persistent engine issues.

Today we are traveling south the length of Barkley Lake….this lake was man made when they flooded the Cumberland River. On my navigation screen you can clearly see that we are traveling in the deeper water of the old river bed.

And with these flood plains and shallow waters, bird sightings. Like this bald eagle circling overhead looking for fish.

Herons, Egrets and flocks of these migrating white pelicans return.

The water is so low this group of cottages no longer have water access….all their docks are on land.

Our track…

We tucked in behind Dover Island for the night with another Nordic Tug, they are from Vancouver ….they trucked it across the country to do the Loop. Fish are jumping all around the boat but Richard can not get a nibble…. Best sunset to date.
