Illinois River
7:30 and we are waiting for the fog to lift.
We have a flotilla of about 7 boats heading to the first and only lock of the day. Moving slowly between patches of dense fog.
The Illinois River is shallow with slow moving current. They dredge the centre of the channel to a minimum of 10 feet for commercial traffic but outside the boat channel it is like flood plains. This last picture is of a flock of American white pelican’s migrating south. I didn’t think pelicans came this far north….find the bald eagle on the branch….beautiful.
Look who is driving……so the captain can take a quick break. Ever so reluctantly….it’s like I’m taking away his shiny new toy 😧
Long day….we are in Peoria tonight, tied to a fuel dock for the night as that it the only place that was left…planning a few shorter days to at anchor….leaving in the morning.
