Joliet

Early start this morning…with our first lock entering the city of Chicago from Lake Michigan….1 foot drop….must have more to do with controlling how much water flows from the Great Lakes into the rivers, but don’t quote me.

Driving our boat through downtown Chicago was the best. Sun coming up, joggers along the river, the towering buildings and calm waters. A dream….😍

Your boat must be under 17 feet to take this route….yet an other reason we love our Red Rover….

We soon reached the outskirts of Chicago and a more rural yet very industrial area.  Sooooo many bridges….

Now this was very interesting….a high voltage current fence running across the river to stop invasive species from reaching the Great Lakes.

Entering the second lock, this one 39 feet.  I will try to get some pictures of these but my hands are busy holding the boat against the wall with water flowing into the lock.  Tomorrow we head south to Ottawa Illinois.
