Bashi Creek Anchorage
Foggy and cold leaving the dock. We have 4 days and 3 nights on the river before arriving in Mobile with no marinas in between.
We had prearranged a lock through with the lock master for 7am. Demopolis lock was only 3 miles away but in heavy fog it was slow going. 14 of us traveling today; this cold weather seems to have motivated everyone to get moving southbound.
40 feet down this morning.
Exiting the lock in such a large group, it took some miles to jockey into position depending on the speed each boat travels. We fall in the middle of the pack with an average speed of 8.5 knots. With such a large range everyone had a different destination for the night.
It was a beautiful day once it warmed up. We got anchored off the side of the river by cocktail time; which is pretty much once we have the anchor set. We were soon hailed by a passing tow recommending we back up 400 meters and tuck closer into shore for our safety. So we pulled anchor and followed his instructions as he guided us to where he thought would be best, he could see us on his AIS. We also dropped a smaller anchor off our stern to keep us from swinging. The captain manhandled that one.
Our track
Steaks on the grill and a glass of wine,
the end of a pretty great day.
