Gold Honey

  13 months, 142 locks, 7,000 + Miles, 19 States, 2 provinces, 3 countries….We made it!  Circumnavigation of the eastern part of the US, the Great Lakes, The Keys, The Bahamas, The Rideau and Trent-Severn waterways…..Absolutely amazing what you can accomplish one day at a time.  We sat down to make a top 10 list of favourites and we couldn’t narrow it down to get even close. The large cities, small towns, wildlife, sunsets and sunrises, the beaches, mangroves, salt marshes, cliffs, mountains, farmlands and the PEOPLE; Boaters at every port welcoming us, locals who stopped to chat, friendly lock operators, patient tow drivers, friends and family who came to visit or followed our blog and last but far from least…..  Loopers, with our dinners, docktails, sharing of stories and life experiences.  So many great people!!! A special thank you to the America’s Great Loop Cruisers’ Association who without their help, we would never have considered, tackled and conquered ...

Gulf Crossing

  18 and 1/2 hours, straight shot from Carabelle to Clearwater.  We left our slip around 3:30 in the afternoon.  Met up with Dave and Towns on Voyager and fellow Canadians Sara and Colin on Riverbend;  we were all on the same agenda so decided to team up for the crossing. We had the sunset on our Starboard side… And the moon rising on our Port….all with no land to be seen on the horizon. Beautiful!!!  Weather conditions were just about as perfect as forecasted.  With the electronics turned down to night vision you could seen pretty well with the full moon. We had radar and AIS watching for other boats….looks like only loopers out here.  The sunrise pictures taken by the captain, first mate was below napping. I was able to sleep, the captain not so much.  Land Ahoy! Pulling into Clearwater Beach Marina.  After a celebratory Caesar, lunch and a nap we went for a walk on the beach.
