Crossing the lower Chesapeake

We pushed off the dock to catch the 8 o’clock Great Bridge/Lock opening….we have a 10 hour day planned.

Through Norfolk on this cloudy day….large naval and commercial port.

Cruising conditions are good and looks like everyone is on the move…..the numbers are clusters of moving loopers.

A lot of water and not much else on these travel days…we pass a few sail boats and we can see land off in the distance but the sun comes out mid afternoon.

We got tucked into this pretty, quiet cove with excellent wind protection by dinner time.

We headed out the next morning but didn’t last long.  We found a bail out just south of the Potomac River and took a chance; it was getting too rough. We hit bottom a few times on shoaling at the entrance, but once in it was as calm as can be and a great relief to 2 rattled sailors.

We spent the day at this very peaceful anchorage surrounded by lovely homes on land and fish traps in the water.
