Baie des Atocas Anchorage

3 boats in the lock this morning, the other 3 lopper boats decided to leave later. Jacques and Sylvie from Quebec are rafted up to us….they have a 26 foot Nordic Tug that they put a lot of work into.  They spend their summers in the North Channel. Up 1 foot in this small lock….

Fun fact; Leonardo da Vinci is credited for inventing the mitred lock doors.  The current pushes against the doors making the seal stronger and stronger.  This technique is, to this day, used all over the world.

From the lock we enter Lac Des Deux Montagnes…Quebec to starboard and Ontario on our port.

Approaching the Carillon Lock…..large hydro dam here.

This lock has a Guillotine door at the entrance with huge counter weight.  Going up 65 feet here…

They have a dock inside this lock, just tie up and the dock and boat float up as they fill the lock.

Mitred doors on the other side. We are alone in this lock as the other 2 boats travel at a slower pace.

Even though we travel through some lakes it is still considered the Ottawa river; it divides Quebec and Ontario.

Anchored by late afternoon in this quiet bay.
