Chambly, Quebec

First bridge/lock combination opens at 9am.  The bridge operator comes down to the wall and keeps track of “first come,  first to lock” order and gives you a time.

We all go through the bridge but only 2 boats will fit in the 9 o’clock locking, 2 at 1:30 and the rest will have to wait until tomorrow.  The reason for that, is the staff that operates lock 9 jump in their truck and follow you along opening bridges and operating the locks for you as you move along;  locking will become more regular come high season later this month.

2 hours of narrow winding canals and six locks before arriving in Chambly.  Our plan was to stay on the wall above the last flight of locks but we were not permitted….lock master asked us to continue through the last flight of 3 locks and dock on the lake below.

You go out of one lock directly into the next….very small locks, barely fit our 2 boats.  All of these locks were hand cranked by the staff….opening and closing the doors, opening and closing the valves…💪🏻💪🏻

We stayed here 2 nights….a well deserved rest and a handy provision spot close by.

We also took a walk to the old Fort.  Canadian history at its best.

It was very well done, interactive with games and puzzles for school kids of which there were a few.  Grade school history coming back to me.

And this would be the reason the canals were build….

Too cloudy for sunset pics, plus I’m probably in bed before the sunsets….😴
