Happy thanksgiving from the Hudson River
We’ve enjoyed some extraordinary weather this week.
Monday we head to Amsterdam, 6 locks. First 2 go up 25 feet each; we are at the highest point of the Erie Canal-420 feet. The next 4 and those after…are going down…..all the way out to the Hudson River.
We are on a free wall here and it is nice and peaceful….until the trains goes by and blasts his horn.😵💫
Tuesday we get an early start as we have 10 locks before we reach Waterford.
5 individual locks followed by a flight of 5 locks….makes for a long day.
Like it here so much we stayed 5 nights with power and water for $10 per night, can’t beat it.
We reprovision, do some housekeeping and relax waiting for a rain event to pass. We even had docktails one night with the other southbound boaters. The grocery store allows you to take the cart back to the dock…grateful.
Even had time to finish this paint by number project which now proudly hangs in the forward head.
Saturday was a rain day but since we had power I decided to cook our turkey dinner.
Today we left Waterford early and we’re in the Troy lock, last lock for a very long time by 7am….cause for celebration. The river was churning with mud and logs from the huge rain fall yesterday.
We stopped for fuel along the way and found a place to anchor outside of Kingston, NY. The wind is calming so we should have a quiet night.
~~~~~~
Tomorrow we head further down the Hudson to anchor and meet up with friends Will and Joy. We will travel together on the Atlantic down the Jersey shore.
