September 2023

After crossing our wake in Penetanguishene, we set off for 2 days/nights, to anchor south of Bone Island in Georgian Bay.  Busy spot as it was labour day weekend but still lots of swing space.  Beautiful spot.

The weather was perfect, and the water warmer than you’d expect for September…..we lucked out ☺️

We returned to Krates Marina in Keswick and send Rick and Sue on their way.  Thanks for a great visit, the gift of a case of wine and the car loaner……come again, anytime 😊

Worked our way through the Trent-Severn Waterway, 44 locks and many nights on the lock walls.

Frankie and Atlas came up for a visit in Lakefield.  We are delighted!  We also had the pleasure of Lori and Dan coming up for lunch and a stroll through Fenelon Falls and dinner with Ian and Kasey that same day.

Even had time for this, very hard, puzzle.  We were traveling slowly to meet up with Brian and Eric from Atkins and Hoyle….we had them come on board at lock 9 to do some work on our dinghy crane.  Working much smoother now.

We stayed 2 nights at Trent Port Marina to re-provision and plan our crossing of Lake Ontario.  We were able to delay our departure long enough to meet up with Janet and Glen from Grand Cru. The last time we saw them was American Thanksgiving last year in Mobile Alabama….it was great catching up.

We tucked into an anchorage in Bay of Quinte, ready to cross Lake Ontario on Tuesday the 26th as weather looked good to cross the next day.

We had a good crossing, started out a little sporty but quieted right down as we got closer to the US side….at our speed took about 5 hours.

Oswego, NY….we stayed on a free wall here for the night.  We clear customs using a Border Security App and a video chat with an officer.  We are in the New York Canal System….going up⬆️

On our second day in the US we did 7 locks, took a left turn and entered the Erie Canal System.  We stayed in Brewerton on a free wall.

Then across Oneida Lake to Sylvan Beach where we stayed 2 nights on a free wall.  Cute little beach town that seems to shut down after the September long weekend.

That’s our track for the month, 44 locks from Port Severn to Trenton, across Lake Ontario into the US, 8 locks of the New York Canal System and across Lake Oneida.

Wow, that was a lot and way too long; plus my memory is too short so I will try blogging once a week….see you next Sunday!

Long range plan for us is returning to warm weather Florida/Bahamas for the winter down the east coast.

What is Erica's last name. Julie is from Hoyle so they probably know each other. Have an awesome trip.
