Great week on the Chesapeake

Image
We left Chester on Tuesday, October 24th, and headed to Dun Cove Anchorage. Beautiful spot and popular…. That’s Will and Joy just off our port side…they dinghyed over for drinks and brought snacks…..always nice to see them. They left early the next morning….we stayed an extra night. On Thursday the 26th we left early and crossed the Chesapeake to anchor in the Solomons. Great anchorage. Left early Friday morning…..crabbers are already at it. Conditions on the Chesapeake could not be better…beautiful out here.  Great weather forecasted for the next few days. We decide to go further than planned and take advantage of the calm waters. Screenshot of our navigation screen crossing the Maryland/Virginia State line. Coincidently, we pass Peter on Tortuga on our port side…..last we saw him was in the Keys when he came out to help us with our stuck dinghy. And….Gettin Nauti on our Starboard….last we saw them was on the Florida panhandle….we are all heading south. Anchored in Godfrey Bay.

Monday, October 16th, we left Delaware City with the afternoon tide to traverse the C & D canal (joins Delaware and Chesapeake Bays). Great weather and good push from the receding tide we enter the Sassafras River by late afternoon. Anchored by Hot Dog Beach. Beautiful sunrise…..we saw deer on the beach here…pretty spot to spend 2 nights. Wednesday, October 8th, we pull up the anchor and head down the river and back into the Chesapeake. Weather conditions are excellent in the Upper Chesapeake today…..great travel day. Fishermen emptying crab traps. We anchor in Reed Creek for 2 nights.  All by ourselves in this secluded spot…until a sailboat came in on the second night. Nice and calm, it’s time to move on before the wind and rain moves in for the weekend. We moved into Piney Narrows Yacht Haven, in Chester, MD for 4 nights on Friday, October 20th. Our track for the week. Going to head south this week towards Norfolk, VA….we hope to spend the week at anchor.

Monday, October 8th we head further south on the Hudson.  Rolling hills and beautiful bridges….it’s quite scenic.  It’s a long weekend here so we passed a small sailboat race and a high speed fast boat race. Last of the season for sure as all the marinas we passed were pulling their docks out of the water and closing down for the year. We anchored just north of NYC with several other boats.  Weather looks good…we all have a similar plan heading south. Met up with our friends Will and Joy….they even braved the weather to dinghy over for a catch-up visit….so nice to see them again. Beautiful sunrise….Tuesday October 9th. Following Will and Joy and several other snowbirds. The NYC skyline never gets old…..got to hand it to the captain for a great crossing among all the ferries, tour boats, tankers and power boats….thanks to Will and Joy for the great pic of our little tug in front of that famous skyline. Once through the harbour we all anchored at “Sandy Hook” on the northern tip of New
